BaZi Glossary

BaZi, also called Four Pillars of Destiny, is a Chinese metaphysics system that converts birth year, month, day, and hour into four Heavenly Stem and Earthly Branch pairs.

Day Master means the Heavenly Stem on the day pillar of a BaZi chart; it is the core reference point for the self, Ten Gods, and Five Element relationships.

Ten Gods are ten BaZi relationship labels calculated from the Day Master; they explain chart themes such as support, expression, wealth, rules, pressure, and peers.

The Five Elements—Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water—are the foundation for understanding BaZi stems, branches, generating cycles, controlling cycles, and chart balance.

Da Yun means the ten-year luck cycle in BaZi; it is used to understand long-term life-stage themes and how they interact with yearly and monthly pillars.

Liu Nian means the annual stem-branch pillar in BaZi; it shows how a specific year relates to the natal chart, Day Master, and Da Yun cycle.

Liu Yue means the monthly stem-branch pillar in BaZi; it turns Da Yun and Liu Nian themes into monthly planning, action, and review.

Liu Ri means the daily stem-branch pillar in BaZi; it is useful for lightweight daily reflection, journaling, and practical reminders.

Hidden Stems are Heavenly Stems stored inside Earthly Branches, adding extra Five Element and Ten God detail to a BaZi chart.

Nayin is a traditional label for stem-branch pairs, giving each pillar an additional symbolic Five Element name.
